July 12, 2012: The celebration

The Smithsonian and the Embassy of France are marking this milestone with a live telecast open to the public between the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, and the Cité des Télécoms in Pleumeur-Bodou. We are celebrating 50 years of global information (July 12, 1962 was the first live TV between continents), and 50 years of the commercial use of Space (Telstar is the first commercial satellite).
